Our confirmation program is open to any young person in the church in grades 9-12 who has not yet been received into membership. The class is a one year program with emphasis both on learning about the responsibilities and obligations of church leadership as well as exploring the meaning of being a Christian. We strive to teach "toward faith." Faith is cultivated and challenged both externally (by the world, society, religion, family, friends, etc.) and internally (by the filters through which we see and interpret the world, relationships, and personal experiences). Some elements surrounding faith can be taught such as church doctrine, church history, the Bible, theology ... but faith itself cannot be taught. Discerning one's faith is the challenge of the confirmation journey.
During this year, each confirmand will be guided through a series of hands-on learning experiences designed to increase his or her understanding of what it means to be part of the church. The confirmation program is comprised of four parts: 1)class time, 2)church participation, 3)service projects, and 4)building mentor relationships. Recognizing that persons have various learning styles, the teachers ( the pastors and the deacons) use a mixture of teaching methods, and are aware that learning happens in multiple settings and in many different ways.
Confirmation, for those who choose, will take place during the 10 a.m. worship service on the first Sunday in June.
