First Church Team helps to build
houses

First Church has a long tradition of mission
outreach with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. Habitat allows people who do
not quality for conventional mortgages to become home owners. To qualify for a
Habitat home, the future homeowner must need housing, have a job so he/she can
pay the mortgage, and partner with Habitat with 150 hours of building (sweat
equity) and promoting the program. Habitat does not charge interest on the
mortgage loan and the house is less expensive because of volunteer builders.
Habitat truly helps people help themselves.

The church provides building teams once a month for homes in
the Hartford Area. One team is currently working the first Thursday of each
month and another team the first Saturday of selected months. In 2008 Habitat is rehabilitating a whole
block of houses in New Britain.

In addition to physical labor, First Church participates in a major yearly
fundraising event and is always the first or second highest church financial
supporter. Anyone interested in helping our Habitat program should contact the
church office (233-9506) and your
message will be forwarded to the proper organizers.
