9:30am: Meet and Greet in room 214 (2nd floor). Families with preschool children aged 3 and 4 are encouraged to attend! This informal meet and greet is a wonderful way to learn a bit more about our Live B.I.G. preschool curriculum and visit with other preschool families. All registration forms will be collected at this time.

9:55am: All families attend the 10am Worship Service together

10:20am: All children head off to class after A Word with our Children.

Children in grades Kindergarten through 7th grade are invited to join us on the 4th floor after Word for the Children for our Faith Journeys program. This will be a special time to reconnect with your friends and meet your teachers. Children will have the opportunity to share where they have been and what they have been doing this summer! All children are encouraged to bring a photograph or drawing of something they have done this summer-it could be a vacation, camp, visiting with relatives, hanging around town, anything at all.

On September 19th we will begin our first official 4 week rotation. We will be exploring the theme of covenant through the story of Abraham and Sarah as well as some parables. Children will rotate in their grade level groups through our 4 workshop rooms-Moved By the Spirit, Jonah's Workshop, Gather Round the Community Garden and Bible Quest. The Changing Face of West Hartford: Meeting the Social Needs in Our Community, a forum sponsored by the First Church of Christ Congregational will be held on Sunday, September 26, 4:00 pm in the Meetinghouse, 12 South Main Street. Ron van Winkle, Town Manager and noted economist, will give an overview of the needs and challenges of West Hartford. The role and responsibility of community organizations to address the needs of our community will be discussed.

Adult Choir Rehearsal

Every Tuesday from 7:00pm to 8:30pm from September to June
Additional voices are needed in all voice parts. No prior music experience is necessary.

Lectio Divina

Every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45
Lectio Divina meets every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 in the Quiet Room. (September through May). Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 13th, 2010.

Christian Classics Book Group

Every Monday at noon
Christian Classics meets at noon in the John P. Webster Library from September through May to discuss books on religion and spirituality. Bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are served. Copies of the book are available in the library and new members are always welcome!

Holy Hands

Fourth Monday of the month from 7:00-8:30pm
Holy Hands meets at 7-8:30 in Room 404. This is a group of women who enjoy fellowship while doing some handwork such as sewing knitting, scrapbooking, quilting etc. together.

Soup and Scripture

Every Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:00 pm from September to June
Soup and Scripture meets from 6:30 - 7:00 with a basic meal of soup and bread available from 6:00 on. We take turns reading the Scripture aloud and briefly discuss them.

TAIZE Worship Service in the Chapel.

Second Sunday of the month from 6:30-7:30pm

Taize Worship is an ecumenical, contemporary, contemplative worship service with song, silence, scripture and prayer. The Taize Community was formed at the end of World War II in Taize, France. The purpose of this community was to promote peace and justice through common worship. This service is co-sponsored by the Spiritual Life Ministry of First Church and the Spiritual Life Center in Bloomfield, CT. All are welcome. The 2010/2011 Worship Schedule is: October 10, November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13, March 13, April 10, May 8.


Whitechapel Handbell Choir

Every Wednesday at 7:00 pm
This ensemble, using four octaves of Whitechapel handbells, rings at the 10:00 a.m. worship service in church on the third Sunday of each month from September through May. Rehearsals are every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting House. 

Knitting Ministry

First Thursday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30 am
Knitting Ministry meets from 10:00 - 11:30 am in the Quiet Room. We knit prayer/healing shawls for those who are sick or in need of comfort. Knitters and non-knitters interested in learning to knit are invited to attend.

Food for Thought Book Discussion Group

First Thursday of the month at 5:45 from October to May
Food for Thought Book Discussion Group meets at 5:45 in the John P. Webster Library for a brown bag dinner followed by a discussion which begins at 6:00.

Journeymen

Meetings are at 8:30 AM on the first and third Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Room
Ken Taylor and Geordie Campbell have convened a men's group under the name of Journeymen. This is an opportunity for the men of First Church to explore together friendship and conversation around the unique experiences of men's spirituality. We begin with "Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey . . ." and we explore that together.
