The musical talent of First Church of Christ Congregational will perform in a spring concert, "Make a Joyful Noise," Sunday, April 6, 2008, 4:00 pm., at the Church, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford. Featured will be ensembles consisting of the Whitechapel Bell Choir, the Adult and Children's Choirs, the carillon, vocal soloists as well as a four-hand piano performance. There will be a freewill offering taken at the concert to benefit the Music and Fine Arts Fund of the church, a fund used for special events such as the summer carillon series.

You are invited to attend a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the First Church Auditorium to hear a reading of Rev. Susan Izard's paper, "My Darling Mother: A Soldier's Letters Home." The paper is about Susan's father's experience in the Battle of the Bulge and as a prisoner of war. Susan has recorded the letters and telegrams her father wrote to his mother from Europe and reconstructed the history surrounding them. Susan's father Lieutenant C. Newton Schenck III, was a forward observer for the 590th artillery of the 106th Army. He was captured in the Schnee Effel on December 19, 1944.

For those who are new to our church and who would like to learn more about the opportunities that we offer for worship, learning, fellowship and outreach, a Special Gathering is planned which will take place in the Friendship and Fellowship Rooms. It will be an opportunity to see a power-point presentation celebrating the many dimensions of our congregation, a chance to get to know others who are new to us, a time to meet the pastors and a few members of the Board of Deacons and Membership Ministry, and an invitation to ask any questions that you might have.

Additional voices are needed in all voice parts. No prior music experience is necessary.

Every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45
Lectio Divina meets every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 in the Quiet Room

Christian Classics

Every Monday at noon
Christian Classics meets at noon in the library to discuss books on religion and spirituality. Bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are served. Copies of the book are available in the library and new members are always welcome!

Holy Hands

Fourth Monday of the month from 7:00-8:30pm
Holy Hands meets at 7-8:30 in Room 404. This is a group of women who enjoy fellowship while doing some handwork such as sewing knitting, scrapbooking, quilting etc. together.

Soup and Scripture

Every Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:00pm from September to May
Soup and Scripture meets from 6:30 - 7:00 with a basic meal of soup and bread available from 6:00 on. The psalms are prayed and briefly discussed sequentially.

TAIZE Worship Service

Third Sunday of the month from 6:30-7:30pm
TAIZE Worship Service in the Sanctuary from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The dates for the fall are: September 21, October 19, and November 16th. Taize Worship is an ecumenical, contemporary, contemplative worship service with song, silence, scripture and prayer. Taize is an ecumenical Christian Community that was formed at the end of World War II in Taize, France. The purpose of this community was to promote peace and justice through common worship. The influence of the Taize Community has now spread all over the world.

Knitting Ministry

First Thursday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30pm
Knitting Ministry meets from 10:00 - 11:30pm in the Quiet Room.

Food for Thought Book Discussion Group

First Thursday of the month at 5:45 from September to May
Food for Thought Book Discussion Group meets at 5:45 in the library for a brown bag dinner followed by a discussion which begins at 6:00.
