We will begin with pot-luck dinner at 6:00 and a program to follow at 6:45. Please bring a main course, salad or vegetable for 6-8 people. Dessert and beverage will be provided. Child activities and care will be provided. What better way to grow your spirit toward Easter?

2. To hear and act upon the Revised ByLaws.

3. To hear any other matters and take such other action as may legally come before this meeting.

If you attended the first orientation meeting and have decided to join First Church, a second meeting will be offered on March 14 from 4:00 - 5:30.  This second gathering is to learn more about First Church history and the meaning of membership.  New members will then be received into our Church Family on March 21 during our morning worship.

TAIZE Worship Service in the Chapel from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The dates for winter 2009/spring 2010 are: March 14 and April 11. Taize Worship is an ecumenical, contemporary, contemplative worship service with song, silence, scripture and prayer. Taize is an ecumenical Christian Community that was formed at the end of World War II in Taize, France. The purpose of this community was to promote peace and justice through common worship.

The Spiritual Life Ministry is sponsoring a candle light labyrinth walk on March 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. The walk will be held in the Auditorium. Please join us for this time of reflection and contemplation. All members and guests are welcome.

At the regular Sunday service on March 21, the Adult Choir will present Mass No. 2 in G Major, D. 167, by Franz Schubert. The soloists for this work will include numerous section leaders of the choir, and Insun Lee will be accompanist for the presentation.

The annual Women's Retreat will be held on April 9th to 10th at Wisdom House in Litchfield, CT. Susan Izard will lead us in the theme: "Open Hearts, Open Minds." The retreat is a time for fellowship, reflection, prayer and enjoying early spring in northern Connecticut. Year after year we have enjoyed this time together and invite all new female members of our church join us this year! The cost is $91. This covers housing and three meals. Adult Choir Rehearsal

Every Tuesday from 7:00pm to 8:30pm from September to June
Additional voices are needed in all voice parts. No prior music experience is necessary.

Lectio Divina

Every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45
Lectio Divina meets every Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 in the Quiet Room. (September through May). Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 14th, 2009.

Christian Classics Book Group

Every Monday at noon
Christian Classics meets at noon in the John P. Webster Library from September through May to discuss books on religion and spirituality. Bring a bag lunch; coffee and tea are served. Copies of the book are available in the library and new members are always welcome!

Holy Hands

Fourth Monday of the month from 7:00-8:30pm
Holy Hands meets at 7-8:30 in Room 404. This is a group of women who enjoy fellowship while doing some handwork such as sewing knitting, scrapbooking, quilting etc. together.

Soup and Scripture

Every Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:00 pm from September to June
Soup and Scripture meets from 6:30 - 7:00 with a basic meal of soup and bread available from 6:00 on. We take turns reading the Scripture aloud and briefly discuss them.

TAIZE Worship Service

Second Sunday of the month from 6:30-7:30pm
TAIZE Worship Service in the Chapel from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The last date for spring 2010 is April 11 and the fall schedule will be forthcoming. Taize Worship is an ecumenical, contemporary, contemplative worship service with song, silence, scripture and prayer. The Taize Community was formed at the end of World War II in Taize, France. The purpose of this community was to promote peace and justice through common worship. The influence of the Taize Community has now spread all over the world.

Whitechapel Handbell Choir

Every Wednesday at 7:00 pm
This ensemble, using four octaves of Whitechapel handbells, rings at the 10:00 a.m. worship service in church on the third Sunday of each month from September through May. Rehearsals are every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting House. 

Knitting Ministry

First Thursday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30 am
Knitting Ministry meets from 10:00 - 11:30 am in the Quiet Room. We knit prayer/healing shawls for those who are sick or in need of comfort. Knitters and non-knitters interested in learning to knit are invited to attend.

Food for Thought Book Discussion Group

First Thursday of the month at 5:45 from October to May
Food for Thought Book Discussion Group meets at 5:45 in the John P. Webster Library for a brown bag dinner followed by a discussion which begins at 6:00.

Journeymen

Meetings are at 8:30 AM on the first and third Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Room
Ken Taylor and Geordie Campbell have convened a men's group under the name of Journeymen. This is an opportunity for the men of First Church to explore together friendship and conversation around the unique experiences of men's spirituality. We begin with "Whoever you are, wherever you are on life's journey . . ." and we explore that together.
