High School Mission Trip 2017
Epworth Project, Slidell, Louisiana

What organization did we work with? We worked with Epworth Project in the Greater New Orleans areas. Epworth Project is a non-profit that rallies volunteers from around the country to help local families with home repairs. A barrage of powerful hurricanes over the past decade, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012, have destroyed thousands of homes, and there is still plenty of work to do.

What kind of work did we do? This was a labor intensive trip and involved a variety of home repair tasks. The week included gutting, painting, installing flooring, and building a handicap ramp. Technical experience is appreciated but not required.

We will also engage the important relational work of mission. Youth will build relationships with local residents and become acquainted with the socioeconomic issues that affect the region.

Where did we stay? We will stay at Epworth Project, which hosts groups of up to 54 people in their dorm style housing. We will travel, live, and work with youth from Rocky Hill Congregational Church and Flagg Road UCC.
