In partnership with the West Hartford African American Social and Cultural Organization (WHAASCO), First Church held a special ground-breaking for a historic marker dedicated to Lemuel Haynes after worship on Juneteenth.

The Dedication of the Rev. Lemuel Haynes Memorial, Sunday, February 12th at 11:15 a.m. A celebration of the country’s first African-American to be ordained a minister. We have been honored to work with WHAASCO (West Hartford African American Social and Cultural Organization) and other community partners to bring this vision to reality.
