About Us

We live by our slogan: Living in Spirit, Committed to Service, Open to All. We think worship should be fun and interesting, with music to stir the spirit. We offer events that rival any local arts venue or library! And your kids will love our teachers and kids’ programs. Come visit us!

Worshiping in five different meetinghouses since the beginning, First Church of Christ has stood at the center of community life in West Hartford, CT for over 300 years. Founded in 1713 as the “established church” of the West Division of Hartford, the congregation helped to shape the religious, political, and educational life of the town. We opened a preschool in 1941 which welcomes children of all faiths and backgrounds (First Church Academy for Young Children), and in 1978 we added the John P. Webster Library, a spiritual resource center open to the public.

We called our first female Senior Pastor  Rev. Jane Willan to our church family on February 13, 2022. On November 27, 2022 we welcomed our new Associate Pastor Rev. Fredd Ward.

First Church offers opportunities to get involved in music during our services. We have an Adult Choir, Handbell Choir, and Trombone Choir. Contact our Director of Worship Arts, Jim Boratko, for more information.

First Church offers a variety of concerts each year. The Arts in the Center concerts are spread throughout the year. We offer two summer concert series; Carillon concerts on Thursdays in July and the Sun is Shining concert series on Tuesdays in August. We also have groups that perform at First Church for the holidays, such as the Choral Club of Hartford and the City Singers.
